Prior to the 1998 Military Vehicle Preservation Association Convention, John McCleaf and Garrick Smith, two good friends of mine, and each other, purchased canvas to outfit their vehicles. I knew that they both had the capability of taking 1st Class in their respective classes, and that either one might be able to secure best in show.
As it turned out, I was right, and John McCleaf emerged from the smoke with the brass ring, taking Best of Show with his 1942 Dodge Carryall.
It is my privilege to be able to present both vehicles here, in all of their glory.
